The government is yet to decide the fate of a bill that tightens the rules on Māori claims to customary rights over marine and coastal areas, after a Supreme Court ruling this week essentially did the same job.
Opposition parties have called for the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Amendment Bill (MACA) to be immediately scrapped, saying it should never have been put to Parliament before the Supreme Court had a chance to consider the issue.
