The Law Association of New Zealand has opened applications for membership of its 19 specialist law committees for the two-year term from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2028.
The committees include a newly established Finance and Banking group, bringing the total number of committees from 18 to 19.
Committee appointments are highly sought after and with each committee limited to 15 members, the selection process is competitive. Appointment is subject to approval by The Law Association management and Council.
Applications are now open to members. Non-members with relevant expertise are also invited to apply.
The committees play a significant role in the development of New Zealand law. Members draft submissions to government and industry, engage with ministers and select committees, intervene in cases of public interest, and they contribute to continuing professional development programmes. Members also occasionally write articles for LawNews and represent the committee in media interviews.
Meetings are held monthly, either online or in person at The Law Association’s Auckland offices. Applications close on Sunday 21 June 2026.
