Te Pāti Māori says it will establish a $1 billion energy sovereignty fund as part of a plan to overhaul the energy sector.
The party said the fund would be used for grants, concessional finance, guarantees, equity investment, and co-investment that would enable all hapū, iwi, marae, Māori landowners and communities to acquire permanent stakes in energy assets.
“Every party is talking about generating more electricity. We’re asking the question they keep avoiding: who will own it?” co-leader Rawiri Waititi said.
