The Greens say they will cap political donations in a bid to “get big money and influence out of politics”.
Under the plan, political donations will be limited to $30,000 per person per election cycle, companies will be barred from making donations, and political lobbyists will be placed on a public register.
Parties will also have to name anyone who donates more than $1,000 a year and former ministers will have to wait for two years before they can lobby.
“Parliament is supposed to work for New Zealanders, not just lobbyist interests…The Green Party will make sure our democracy works, transparently, for the people of this country,” co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick said.
