Nearly half of New Zealand first home buyers are now entering the market with deposits below 20%, according to new Reserve Bank data.
The share of low-deposit first home buyers has risen from 26% in 2014 to 47% in the year to March, helped by flat house prices and looser lending rules. Economists warned rising interest rates could place additional pressure on highly leveraged borrowers.
