The government has issued guidelines for safe use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the public sector.
Digitising Government Minister Judith Collins KC said AI had the potential to boost productivity and allow public servants to focus more on frontline services, but it must be used correctly.
“This guidance is part of a suite of tools for agencies to adopt AI in ways that are safe, transparent and deliver real value for New Zealanders, while upholding the highest standards of trust and accountability,” she said.
Collins said the government’s Chief Digital Officer Paul James is working with the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment to develop similar guidance for the business community.
